Global South Studies is a digital platform created and designed in 2014 by Anne Garland Mahler and brought to fruition in 2017 in collaboration with Magalí Armillas-Tiseyra, and Leigh Anne Duck, editor of The Global South. It was originally inspired by Deepika Bahri’s innovative PostcolonialStudies@Emory.
The site aims to advance Global South Studies by offering resources and a network for information-sharing and community-building in the field. This includes keyword essays, which provide a map of key concepts, thinkers, moments, and issues in the field. Conversations, meanwhile, provide a forum for in-depth exchanges around recently published books or other relevant topics. We also regularly publish information on related events, calls for papers, and other announcements, available via our newsletter.
This project is built through the collaboration of an international and interdisciplinary community, and contributions to it are welcome and encouraged. You are invited to send proposals and announcements.
Since 2017, Global South Studies has been made possible with funding from the University of Virginia and the Pennsylvania State University.
